Many of us can remember how in 1978 we sat in lines at gas stations to get our ration of gasoline for our cars. Based on the last letter in your license plate, you had fill ups on Monday, Wednesday, Friday or some other government configuration. Our country was determined, at the time, to stop our reliance on oil and to make our country more energy independent. Fast forward to 2010 and we may not be sitting in gas lines anymore, but we are no closer to being an energy independent country.
For the last thirty years, utility companies and organizations supporting sustainable energy have done their best to promote the benefits of using energy wisely while educating consumers on behavioral changes. However, too many consumers still don’t understand how they use their energy at home or at work. Too many consumers don’t reach out to their energy provider to take advantage of educational tools or to participate in energy efficiency programs. Unless home heating oil goes over $3/gallon or gasoline spikes up to $4/gallon, it has been difficult to get consumers to focus on their energy usage and stay focused.
That is why The Resource Link was created and why it continues to exist, to support efforts to educate consumers and businesses on how to use their energy efficiently.
